What is XAMPP?
XAMPP stands for cross-platform, Apache, MySQL, PHP and Perl. It’s a simple and lightweight solution that allows you to create a local web server for testing purposes.
Since XAMPP is cross-platform, it also works on Mac and Linux.
WordPress isn’t a stand-alone application and requires server software in order to run. XAMPP provides the necessary environment needed to run WordPress on a local machine.
Following are the steps to create Local WordPress site using XAMPP
In order to create WordPress site using XAMPP. You need to install XAMPP into your machine.

After succesfull installation you can see the below screen of XAMPP Control Panel.
Download and Install WordPress
Now to install WordPress you have to download latest version of WordPress from below link
After downloading WordPress you need to unzip WordPress in below folder path.
Folder Path of XAMPP : C:/XAMPP/htdocs (It’s depends on installation drive of XAMPP)
Now rename that folder as “code-scratcher-demo“. Rename it whatever you like.
Setting Up Your MySQL Database
To setting up MySQL database, Open XAMPP Control Panel and Click on Admin in the MySQL row to launch phpMyAdmin.
A new browser window will automatically open with the phpMyAdmin interface. Click on Databases tab near the top-left, and you’ll be create a new database. Look at the below image.
Create database with the name of “db_demo” for our “code-scratcher-demo” project.
Setup WordPress Configuration
Now that you have created a database, you can use it for your WordPress site.
Go to http://localhost/code-scratcher-demo link in browser tab. You should see the translation screen that comes before the WordPress installation process.
Click on “Continue” button for next process. You will see a page like below…
Now you should enter your database connection details like username, etc details to complete the process.
Now “Run the installation” and after that you need to enter a username, password, and an email address for your admin account.
Once you have filled all the information, click on the ‘Install WordPress’ button to continue.
WordPress will now run the installation and prompt you to login once it’s done.
You can login to your website by going to http://localhost/code-scratcher-demo/wp-admin page and use the username / password that you entered during installation to login.
